What's in a Name?

Or: Seriously what's up with all the House of Leaves references? Didn't this thing come out in 1972?

I remember someone (jR? vB?) theorizing about what the deal was with the various House of Leaves elements in Zampanio. Most obviously, its name. I won't go over the same possibilities they presented, but there's a couple that I haven't seen discussed yet.

For reference, the possibilies previously presented were:

- Zampanio inspired House of Leaves

- House of Leaves inspired Zampanio

I would like to present for consideration, the following possibilies:

1. Someone involved in the creation of Zampanio was in correspondence with the author of House of Leaves

Okay, this one doesn't seem very likely. Given the release date of House of Leaves, either it was being written over quite a long period of time, or Zampanio was released significantly after the 70's. Of the two, the latter seems more feasible, but that theory's already been discussed plenty, so I'll leave it at that.

2. The original release of Zampanio did not contain House of Leaves references

This one... I think could be possible. jR has mentioned that their simulation leaned harder on the HoL stuff. What if the version from the FAQ and or the version they played also was heavier on the HoL references than whichever version it branched off of? What if the original didn't contain HoL references at all, but at some point down the line, the Zampanio/Zampano connection was made (as in, "Zampanio" as the name was not originally derived from HoL's Zampano. I've already seen at least one other theory regarding this. Suggested that Zampanio could've been a misspelling of something else, though I forget what) and they sorta leaked their way in more and more? There's so many differing accounts of Zampanio (and some of them don't have mention of HoL references, though that doesn't mean for certain that they aren't there. Maybe those players just didn't encounter them in their playthrough... or maybe whatever version they were playing was descended from a version that didn't have HoL references to begin with!) that this actually seems quite plausible.
